Music
Music is a vital part of Immanuel UCC. We have a new music director as of fall 2024, and she is building upon an already robust program. Our wonderful Chancel Choir sings a wide range of music, and provides leadership in Sunday morning worship services. We also have a house band named SoulShaker who plays about 6 weeks, with many original songs. We have had handbell choirs for all ages from youth to seniors, as well as children and youth choirs in the past. We are re-imagining those programs now and would love to have you as part of it!
Youth
We have an amazing Youth Group. Every year we have two retreats (Spring and Fall), summer camp, a work trip, fundraisers, and lead worship on Youth Sunday. We also meet quarterly for youth meetings that can be purely fun events like St. Patty’s Day party or lock-ins, or we go out and serve the community. We collaborate with the Kentuckiana Association of UCC churches because we know the more the merrier. No matter what we do, we always have fun!
Vacation Bible School
Our joint Vacation Bible School with Bardstown Road Presbyterian Church looked different this past summer. We had 1 Very Big Service Day! We meet together at Des Pres Park with our friends at Bardstown Road Presbyterian Church. We had ate lunch, sang, and served our community. We made Birthday Bags for local food pantries, included in the birthday bags were cake mixes, frosting, pans, soda with instructions on how to replace eggs/oil with a soda, table cloth, plates, napkins and candles. Our hope is that this provides joy and happiest to our families.
Sunday School
Pre-K - K
Taught by Samantha Barrett. The kids will explore Bible stories and get to know the people in these stories. Meets in room 202 (upstairs across from choir room)
1st - 5th Grade
Taught by Mrs. Jean, the kids learn about and experience the great stories of the Bible and learn that God and Immanuel loves them. It sounds like a lot, but the kids have so much fun they never want to miss a Sunday! Meets in room 103 (first floor across from Library).
Youth and Adults
We will be doing shorter classes (4-6 weeks) throughout the year on a variety of topics.
Christian Education
We believe we can always learn more about our God, our beliefs, and our world through the eyes of faith, and others' beliefs. We respect one another, even if we do not exactly agree with one another. We try to make sure there is something for everyone throughout the week to enable them to grow closer to God. We have classes from Pre-K through adults. Along with Sunday School and VBS we also do fun fellowship events like our intergenerational annual Wii bowling tournament and our famous haunted tunnel or trunk or treat during our Octoberfest.
